Owls Opening Showcase at the Jersey Blues Invitational

The Union College Men’s Basketball would play in a back-to-back tournament this weekend against Nassau Community College and Rockland Community College.

First Day Out the Nest

The Union Owl Men’s Basketball team kicked off their season on the road at the Jersey Blue’s Invitational this week versus Nassau Community College. The owls were amazing early in the game, knocking down open jump shots and living at the free throw line.

Nassau’s full court press was smothering causing the Owls to commit various turnovers. The Lions were able to take control of the game.

Owl’s freshmen forward Jahmere Glover was a force on the interior ending the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

However, the Owls fell short 87-72 on the road versus the Lions and would look to regroup and bounce back on Sunday versus Rockland Community College. It was not the start that Union hoped for but there were some positives to take away from this game.

The Owls Are Flying

The Union Owl’s Men’s Basketball were back in action Sunday November 6th versus Rockland Community College at the Jersey Blue’s Invitational. After a tough lost on the road, the Owls came out the gate with fire in their eyes. Getting off to a strong start again, except this time they would never relinquish the lead.

This was a great overall team win as 8 of our 12 players would chip in scoring for the Owls. The sharpshooting freshman Kyle Perez sunk 4 threes, point guard Josiah King totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assist, Jordan miller with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, and another great night from the freshmen forward Jahmere Glover who finished with 22 points in this contest.

The owls were able to handle the full court press of Rockland a lot easier as they picked it apart for layups and open threes. The Owls were able to apply some full court pressure themselves allowing the Owls to get a lot of deflections, steals and even causing Rockland to have self-inflicting turnovers winning the turnover battle.

Final score 81-49.

The Owls hope to continue this success on the road at Salem Community College at 12 PM.
