Owls Baseball Team Shows They are Finally Finding Their Groove

The Owls seem to be finding their way after a rough season start. Coach Brett and his team saw a painful start of the season falling to 0-10 as they figured out how to unify. Coach Brett has been adamant about not giving up on his team and that dedication shows in his players as they picked up their first and second wins this past week. According to Coach Brett, the record does not show the skill and effort of the players, instead just a series of unfortunate events and competition against some very skilled and experienced teams.

Some of the highlights shared from the beginning of the season include:

On 3/18:

Bryan Padilla hit his first homerun of the season

In that same game pitcher Andrew Addesso threw six scoreless innings.

On 3/23:

Miguel Leocadio (2B) finished the day 2-2 with a sac.

On 3/29:

Javier Alfonso had two doubles and four RBIs while Bryan Padilla scored twice on 3 hits and had one RBI.

In the double header, Joel Matos finished game two 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

On 3/30:

Onil Ferreiras threw five innings with Quincy Mitchell relieving and throwing three. Quincy only allowed one earned run.

On 4/1:

Matt Delgado and Bryan Williams both reached base three times and each earned one run.

Freshman pitcher Greg Urena threw 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out 3 and giving up only one hit.

On 4/5:

Andrew Addesso threw six innings of shutout baseball giving up one hit and striking out five batters.

Jacob Bottomly reached base safely three times.

On 4/9:

Starting pitcher Zac Zaller got a no-decision after throwing 6 solid innings only allowing 3 runs. Greg Urena pitched relief with 3 shutout innings.

Cesar Morillo hit a 2RBI single in the 9th inning to put the Owls on top.

In their two recent wins, the Owls saw their defensive play becoming much more focused and cleaned up early season mistakes, while their offense displayed much more patience and overall game awareness.

The Owls prepare for a trip to Ocean County College on 4/12/22
