Blackwood, N.J. – After a formidable regular season, going 3-2 in Conference duals, the Owls earned a spot as the number two seed in the Garden State Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024. Camden County College was the host school for the day after finishing the regular season on top of the state schools.
Union led off the day against Sussex County, where the Skylanders shocked the gym with an upset over the Owls, with a final score of 33-21.
Brian Moyer Jr. (285) remains undefeated against conference opponents on the season with his third win by fall against Sussex’s Saulenier.
Chaos then ensued in the Consolation Finals, as the Owls squared up with the Colts of Middlesex College. It was a back and forth back that came down to the final bout, with Union trailing by 5 points. Darius Quarshie was able to put the match out of question with a first period fall and send the Owls back home with the bronze. Another highlight of the match came from Levaughn Wilson-Reid (141) who claimed his first career collegiate win with an impressive pin in the first period.
The Wrestling Owls continue their postseason on Saturday, February 17th for the Gulf Atlantic District Tournament at Lackawanna College, with hopes of punching their ticket to compete at the NJCAA National Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa on March 2-3.
