Union Men's Soccer Ties Hawks in Double OT to Open Season; Dominique Nets Two Goals

Denilson Dominique would strike in the 14th minute to get the Owls going early to lead 1-0. The Hawks would strike back in the 17th minute to knot the game at one a piece and that score would carry into halftime. The Owls would take the lead 2-1 at the 69th minute with a goal from Jacques Fuentes. The College of Southern Maryland would answer back with three unanswered goals at the 72nd, 75th and 79th minutes to take a 4-2 lead with 10 minutes to play in regulation. Union would not roll over and fought back with two goals of their own before regulation expired with goal in the 80th minute, Juan Bernal with the assist from Christian Urena, and 85th minute, Denilson Dominique assisted by Juan Bernal, to force the game into overtime.  Both teams would have their opportunities in the first overtime, but no one could break through forcing a second and final overtime.  In the second overtime their were chances to be had, but either team could capitalize and the game would end in a 4-4 tie.  Head Coach Alex Louis commented "  We played well for our opening game, but missed a lot of of opportunities and goals.  We need to tighten this up moving forward."

Union is next in action on the road of Friday, August 23 as they will face Mid-Atlantic Christian University beginning at 4:30 pm.
