Last Second Free Throws Seal Victory for Union Men's Basketball

CRANFORD, NJ - The Union men's basketball team upset the defending national champion Brookdale Jersey Blues 82-79. In a game that saw the lead change several times over the course of 40 minutes, and was tied 40 a piece at halftime, it was the the final 19 seconds that sealed the victory for Union.

Sophomore Jordan Rowley (Hillside, NJ) hit two free throws with 19 seconds left on the clock to put the Owls up by one point.  After a Brookdale time-out, the Jersey Blues turned the ball over on a crucial five second call on the inbound play.   Freshman Marvellous Akingbala (Union, NJ) off the Union in bound play was fouled and sunk both free throws to give Owls the three point win.

Sophomore Nyquan McComb (Staten Island, NY) led Union with 22 points.  Fellow sophomore teammates Derek Booker (Bayonne, NJ) and Rowley added 20 points and 12 points in the victory.

The win improves Union's record to 6-3 on the season.  The Owls are next in action on Thursday, December 6 when they travel south to Toms River, NJ to take on Ocean beginning at 6:00 pm.
