Lady Owls Upended by Nationally Ranked Opponents in Weekend Mixer

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team had a busy weekend, playing three games in as many days which kicked off with a home victory, 88-48, against Frederick Community College on Friday evening.

The Owls then took on a pair of nationally ranked opponents in the CCBC Essex Mixer beginning with #17 Harcum College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls played the Bears closely, but were behind for the majority of the contest and couldn't close the gap as the team suffered their first loss of the year, 63-49, to drop to 8-1 on the season. Sophomore Jai'Den Anderson led her team in the defeat, finishing with 13 points while teammate Kalise Evans finished just shy of a double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Sunday featured a battle between Owls as Prince George's took on #4 Union College who entered with a 12-0 record after they defeated Bryant & Stratton – VA on Saturday in their first matchup of the weekend mixer. Prince George's fought hard once again versus another top ranked program but were ultimately unable to get in front of Union at any point in the game, dropping the contest by a final score of 86-60. Prince George's Tamia Washington led all scorers on the day with 22 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals as well. Evans did earn a double-double in Sunday's contest, finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

The Owls now head into the winter break with an 8-2 record on the year which includes a perfect 5-0 mark in Region 20 games. Prince George's returns to action for the first time in the new year on Wednesday, January 8th when they host College of Southern Maryland at 5 PM.
