SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team opened the season on the road Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, as they traveled to CCBC Catonsville for the Cardinals Tip-Off Tournament. After completion of the weekend, the Statesmen moved to 0-2 overall.
Friday evening, Richard Bland dropped the non-conference game to #5 Union College (NJ), 32-95. The Owls outscored the Statesmen 21-48 after two quarters of play. Richard Bland struggled to find their groove in the second half, scoring just six and five points in the third and fourth quarters. Aryauna Brent led the way for Richard Bland with nine points, six rebounds, and two assists. Ni'Ana Hill led the boards with nine and also added two points, two assists, and two blocks. Khamaya Earley and Keimare Gray had four points each and eight and six rebounds.
Richard Bland shot 18.4% from the field, 14.3% from the perimeter, and 54.5% from the charity stripe.
Saturday afternoon, Richard Bland dropped a second non-conference game to Region 19 foe, Lackawanna College, 46-86. The Statesmen trailed 24-36 at the half, but could not contain the Falcons after the break, allowing them to add 20 and 30 points in the third and fourth quarters. Mya Mewborn led the way for Richard Bland with 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Khamaya Earley chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds, and one assist on the day, while Aryana Brent added eight points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Keimare Gray tallied seven points and seven rebounds, Ni'Ana Hill six points and six rebounds, and Ava Meanor five rebounds and two points for Richard Bland.
Richard Bland shot 25.8% from the field, 21.4% from the perimeter, and 56.3% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Wake Technical Community College to open conference play on Wednesday, November 6th. Tip-0ff is set for 5pm.
