Cranford, NJ - The Union County College Foundation has announced the winners of the prestigious Dr. Richard F. and Barbara Neblett Prize, and this year, UCNJ’s very own Devon Stanberry has been honored with this remarkable recognition. The Neblett Prize, which acknowledges individuals who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to supporting student success and educational opportunity, is a testament to the impact Stanberry has had on the College community.

As the Coordinator of Fitness Center, Intramurals, & Equipment at UCNJ, as well as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Devon Stanberry has long been a cornerstone of the College’s athletics and student services. Under his leadership, the UCNJ Men’s Basketball team had a historic season, culminating in their journey to the NJCAA DIII Men’s Basketball National Championship in Herkimer, New York. The Owls finished the regular season with an impressive 24-3 record, including a dominant 17-1 mark in conference play.

The Owls also triumphed in multiple key competitions this season. They were crowned Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Champions and North Atlantic District A Champions. Perhaps most notably, UCNJ’s Men’s Basketball team won the Region XIX Tournament for the first time since 1992, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the region. In recognition of his incredible leadership, Devon Stanberry was named the Region XIX DIII Doug Yenni Coach of the Year.

The Neblett Prize comes as a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and relentless commitment Devon has shown to UCNJ students and the broader community. It’s not just his athletic achievements that have made a difference, but his unwavering support for student success both on and off the court. The Neblett Prize is a fitting acknowledgment of his contributions, and as part of the honor, Coach Stanberry will have the unique opportunity to name a scholarship for UCNJ students for the upcoming academic year, further enriching the educational experience for future generations.
