Union Had a Great Showing at NJCAA National Meet

Union County College had an excellent showing at the NJCAA Track & Field National Champions this past weekend in Holyoke Community College in Massachusetts. Iyanah Hawley, a freshman from Elizabeth, NJ, not only won events but broke NJCAA National meet records.

Iyanah competed in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles where she finished first for both events.  In the 100 meter hurdles she ran 14.44 seconds where she broke the current NJCAA National meet record of 14.74 seconds. From this outstanding performance Iyanah earned being named the Female East Region Athlete of the Year.

The men's team also had some shining moments at Nationals. Nolister Montas, a freshman from Summit, NJ, ranked 4th in the javelin throw with 48.48 meters. Union came in 6th with the men's 400 meter hurdles with Freshman Sebastian Estriplet with a time of 58.26, and Alanzo Aris came in 4th for the men's 100 meter dash with an impressive time of 11.13 seconds.  The speed throughout the men's team led the men's 4x100 meter relay to a podium finish in 6th place with a time of 3:29.30.

Only throughout the 4 year existence of a Track and Field program at Union County College, the program has named over 30 All-Americans.
