Union County College's Katie Lennon Wins A National Div. III Track Championship Title

Union County College Wins National Div. III Track Championship

In its first season with a Track & Field program, Union County College has a track athlete who is a National Champion.

Lady Owl track star Katie "Hurricane" Lennon came in first place in the Women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 42:09.18. She competed yesterday (May 9) in the NJCAA DIII Nationals held at Howard Community College (Columbia, MD).

Her Union County College teammate, Petra Semelova, placed second with a time of 43:26.60.

The competition continues today and features Ms. Lennon and Ms. Semelova running in both the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter finals.

Ms. Lennon's victory is the first Track & Field National Championship in Union County College's 79-year history.  The National Junior College Athletic Association (Division III) includes 98 community colleges across 14 states and 24 regions.

Union County College's men's team will also compete in the finals in the 4 x 100 relay where they are currently ranked 5th at the meet. 

Both the Kate Lennon and Petra Semelova are names All-Americans along with the men's 4x100 relay team with anticipation for more All-Americans to be named throughout Nationals.
