Five Union Women's Soccer Players Named to United Soccer Coaches All Region Team

KANSAS CITY, MO - The United Soccer Coaches released their 2018 Division III Junior College All East Region Team of which five Union Owls soccer players were named to.  Sophomore Barbara Ferreira was named to the First Team, while fellow sophomores Lauren Buchanan, Maya Lawler, Monica Flores and Sophia Melendez were all named to the Second Team.  

First team honoree Barbara Ferreria, a midfielder, had 21 points scoring seven goals with seven assists.  Second Team Honorees:  Buchanan, a goalie, had a .954 save percentage with 12 shutouts on the season.  Lawler, a defender, had 23 points including 10 goals and three assists.  Flores, a midfielder, tallied 21 points with seven goals and seven assists.  Melendez, a forward, totaled 35 points including 14 goals and seven assists.  

Union head coach Angie Correia commented on the honorees "I am proud of how hard these young women have worked to better themselves...they have set the bar high for futures classes."

The Union Owls women's soccer team finished the season with a 15-2-1 record including a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament, their first as a Division III program.  The Owls came away with a third place finish at the national tournament, the programs best ever finish to a season.
