Union Women's Soccer Takes Third Place at National Tournament; Receives Tournament Sportsmanship Award

ROCKFORD, IL - The Union women's soccer team dropped their semi final game to #2 Delta 2-0 Friday evening. The Owls finished in third place, the highest finish at a national tournament since the inception of the women's soccer program.  Union could not seem to get the offense going, while the speed and physical play of the Delta team proved to be to much for the Owls throughout the game.

Union was awarded the National Tournament sportsmanship plaque during the awards portion of tournament at the conclusion of the championship game on Sunday.   The award is given to the team which, through actions both on and off the court, has demonstrated fairness, respect, honesty, unselfishness, and responsibility.  Also during the awards portion of the tournament sophomores Monica Flores and Lindsey Wielgus were named to the All Tournament team.

The team finished the season with a remarkable 15-2-1 record, while making their first appearance at the National Tournament as a Division III program.  The Owls finished the season in the last regular season NJCAA poll as the eighth ranked team in the county, seeded sixth going into the national tournament, and finishing in third place at the national tournament.
