Women's Soccer Named Tournament Champions!

The Union County College Women's Soccer team traveled to upstate New York for a season opener at North Country Community College. The Lady Owls did an amazing job testing out their hard work and are on their way home with the hardware to prove it!

The team's first game was against North Country Community College which ended in 0-0 in double overtime. Freshman starters Maya Lawler of Cranford, Steffany Marroquin of Plainfield and captain Barbara Ferreira of Union all had shots on goal but could not find the back of the net.

The following day the team took on Jefferson Community College from Watertown, NY and finished with a 5-2 victory. Steffany Marroquin, Sophia DasNeves and Mildre Cruz all contributed one goal each along with returning forward Rosabriana Bonilla who had 2 goals. Contributing with 2 assists each were Alexis Wysocki and captain Michelle Guerra.

The team was honored to be named the Tournament Champions. Barbara Ferreira and Steffany Marroquin were named Tournament All-Team, and Maya Lawler was named the Tournament MVP.

The team is ecstatic to have such a great outcome during their first outing of the season and are ready to get back on the pitch for their next game at Penn State University–Worthington on Tuesday, September 5th at 4pm.
