Marbely Montas is no stranger to the Union County College family. Marbely started her legacy as a student in 2005 on a basketball scholarship. It was then that she was named to the Junior College/Community College (JC/CC) Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team. After finishing her two years as a Lady Owl and earning a degree in Business Administration, Marbely signed a full basketball scholarship with Monmouth University.

After finishing her bachelor’s degree in Science of Health Studies, Marbely moved to join the Dominican Republic National Team. Yet again exceeding expectations, she became the second leading scorer for the Dominican Republic. The following year she traveled to Puerto Rico and played in the Centro Americanos where her team earned a silver medal.

Wanting to further her education, Marbely attended Kean University to earn her master’s degree in Business Administration.

In 2011, Marbely was brought back to Union County College as an assistant coach and since then the team has had 6 Region XIX Tournament appearances. During the 2011-2012 season, the team was named Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and Region XIX Champions. During the 2014-2015 season, the team finished 27-7, was named Region XIX Champions, and made their 1st appearance in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament.

Prior to the start of the 2017-2018 season, Marbely was named Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team.

Marbely is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, a member of the Union County College Hall of Fame, and a 4-time Coach of the Year.

Marbely named her most influential coaches as Cheryl Bell, Bob Firestone, and Stephanie Gaitley and her favorite player as Dwayne Wade.

When asked for a quote, she said, “If you dream it, seek it. And if you seek it, be it.”
