Union Women's Basketball Knocks Off #1 Seed in OT Thriller; Advances to Semis

HARRISON, AR - In what is arguably the best game of the NJCAA National Championship Tournament thus far the #9 seeded Union women's basketball team stunned #1 seeded Illinois Central 86-80 in overtime.  With the win Union snapped Illinois Centrals 32 game win streak and has stamped there name in the semi finals tomorrow night versus a familiar opponent in Lackawanna College.

Union was down 21 points halfway through the third quarter, they cut Illinois Centrals lead to six points with one minute remaining and then tied the game up at 69 points a piece with 26.7 seconds left on a Yamel Abreu three pointer.  Illinois Central went up by two points with 2.5 seconds remaining.  Union called a timeout and advanced the ball to half court.  On a Tania Scott throw in, Abreu drove the baseline and layed one off the glass as time expires to tie the game at 71 and force a five minute overtime.  In overtime Union sealed the six point victory.  Union scored 62 of its 86 points in the second half of the game.

Jessica Woods had a double double on the evening with 26 points and 20 rebounds.  Abreu added 29 points including big points in the final minutes of the game and seven rebounds.

Union will move onto the semi finals of the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.  They will face #13 seeded Lackawanna at 9:00 pm EDT.  The winner will have a date in the National Championship game.  With the victory Union improves it record to 29-4 on the season.
