Union Women's Basketball Moves One Step Closer in National Championship Tournament

HARRISON, AR - The Union women's basketball team, the ninth ranked team in the tournament, defeated the eighth ranked team South Suburban 67-55 in the first round of the NJCAA National Tournament. 

The game stayed close throughout the 40 minutes, but Union pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the win and move on to the quarter final round.

Sophomore Jessica Washington led all scorers with 23 points including 7 for 10 from three point range and five steals.  Sophomores Yamel Abreu and Tania Scott each added 12 points in the victory for the Owls.

Union will face number one seeded Illinois Central in the quarter final round on Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 pm EDT.  With the win Union improves to 28-4 on the season and is just three games from a shot at winning the National Championship.
