Union Women's Basketball Onto NJCAA District Championship Game

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY – The Union Women's Basketball team confirmed their spot in the NJCAA National Tournament after defeating the Community College of Rhode Island Knights, 80-48.

The Owls controlled the game from the opening tip after starting the game on a 23-2 run. Yamel Abreu led the Owls with 13 points on the day. Four Owls tallied double-digits in the scoring department.  

Jessica Washington nailed four three-pointers on the day as she continued her hot shooting performance from last week's Region XIX Tournament. The Owls as a team were lighting it up with 13 shots from downtown.

Every Owl notched some minutes today in the victory. Cynthia Ferreira and Destiny Shuler both added double-digit scoring off the bench. Jessenia Nevius added 9 points on three three-pointers.

The Owls will take on the Lackawanna Falcons tomorrow for the fourth time this season. Both teams have already clinched their spot in the NJCAA National Tournament but will be competing for the District N Championship. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse in Loch Sheldrake, NY.  Follow all of the action on the Union Owls official Twitter account (@UnionOwls).
