Union Women's Basketball Rides The Express To Victory

ROCHESTER, NY - The Union women's basketball team cruised to a 96-32 win over the Monroe Express on day one of the Murph Shapiro tournament hosted by Monroe Community College.  The Owls were running like a well tuned machine both offensively and defensively this afternoon in the lopsided victory.

Sophomore Yamel Abreu (Elizabeth, NJ) hit for a team high 24 points, pulled in five boards and handed out five assists.  Sophomore Cynthia Ferreira (Harrison, NJ) played a big role in the win scoring 16 points, grabbing four rebounds and sharing five assists. Sophomore Tania Scott (Newark, NJ) dished out seven assists while contributing 11 points of her own.  Jessica Washington (East Orange, NJ) was the other Union player with double digit points contributing 12 in the win.

This victory moves the Owls to 3-0 on the season.  Union will get less then 24 hours rest when they get their first big test of the season, tomorrow November 11 at noon.  The twelfth rank Owls will look to take down number one ranked Monroe on their home court in the championship game of the tournament in an early season NJCAA  Division II women's basketball showdown.
