Derek Samaroo returns to Union County Men’s Soccer program for his fifth year as assistant coach. He helped guide the team to a 11-8-3 record in 2017 and  Region XIX Finalist.  He has supported head coach Alex Louis in winning 4 berths to the  Region XIX tournament.  In his first year at UCC, Derek was part of the coaching staff that won the Region XIX champions in 2014 and advanced to the National Championships at Herkimer, NY.  Over his tenure, the team has consistently been in the top 50 schools in the nation in scoring goals and in the lowest goals against average.  In 2017, the squad had a NJCAA Second Team All American.

He has worked with the Jersey Knights Soccer Club since 2003 and has been the assistant coach of their U20 Men’s team since 2007. This team competes in the highly competitive USL Super 20’s program and took them to the 2015 championships versus 7 other teams at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.  Over the last 3 years, he has led  college players in the EDP U20/23 League and made the playoff tournament in 2016.

He received his USSF E License in 2009. Derek is a member of United Soccer Coaches formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and earned his State diploma in 2010. He has several other professional development courses with that organization. He is also a member of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA).

Derek has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, Canada. He works for the Colgate Palmolive Company.
