2017 Men’s Lacrosse Season Recap

2017 Men’s Lacrosse Season Recap

2017 Lacrosse season marked the 5th season in Union County College Lacrosse history.  Throughout the 5 year span head coach Jay Roussey has led the Owls to four Region XIX tournament appearances.  Three of the four tournament appearances included the championship game with the Owls taking the title in 2016.

This year the team qualified for the #1 seed in the Region XIX tournament which was held at Ocean County College on April 28th and 30th. Union advanced to the finals for an extremely intense championship game that went into 4 overtimes. The Owls unfortunately fell short to the Ocean Vikings 9-8.

The 2017 season may not have ended with back-to-back Region XIX Championships, but Union's team did not go unnoticed.  Six of Union's lacrosse players were named to the Region XIX Men's Lacrosse All-Region Teams with 5 of the 6 on the All-Region 1st Team.   Union County College's Steven Borthwick received the high honors of Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year from Region XIX along with Jay Roussey being named Coach of the Year.
