The Golf Team Looks to Improve on Last Year's Record

Although the intercollegiate golf season doesn't officially begin until April, the Union County College Intercollegiate Golf Team is in the process of preparing for another season.

Last year's team had a rough season and thus the Team is looking forward to a much improved season this year.  Part of the lack of success of last year's Team was due to the fact that the Team was composed entirely of Freshman and thus had no veteran players to provide guidance and leadership.  This year, the anticipated return of two of last year's players will provide one of the missing elements that were sorely missed last year.

Alex Melleno, a sophomore from Springfield, NJ is a Business Sport's Management major and will be returning for his second season.  Last year Alex had a successful regular season and qualified as an individual to participate in the Region XIX Golf Tournament.  The tournament was held in Cape May, NJ.  Alex played two days of good golf while at the Tournament and hopefully will qualify again this year.

Also returning for his second season is Makauchukwu "MK" Okongwu from Newark, NJ.  MK had several good rounds of golf during the regular season last year and is hopeful of having a "break out season" this year.

This year's Team still has room for additional Team members.  In order to be considered for the Team, a golfer should be able to shoot 95 or better (18 hole score), be registered for 12 or more credits, and of course must be academically eligible.  The team is a co-ed team and thus female candidates are strongly encouraged to come out for the Team.

Candidates for the Team should contact Head Coach Bill Dunscombe at (908) 709-7570 or Assistant Coach Marc Postiglione at (908) 709-7198).
