Union Men's Basketball Rolls in Season Opener; Spann Drops 23

WESTCHESTER, NY - The Union Owls men's basketball team got their season started the right way with a convincing 105-88 victory over Hostos Community College at the Westchester Community College tip-off tournament.  The Owls led by 10 points at halftime and increased their lead to as much as 27 points mid way through the second half.  Union shot 81% from the free throw line, while shooting 10 for 26 from beyond the three point arc.  The win gives head coach Jerry Henderson a positive start to the season as he looks to improve on the teams 15-17 overall record last year.  

Freshman Armin Spann (Plainfield, NJ) led all scorers with 23 points.  Spann also added seven rebounds and three steals in the victory.  Sophomore Trevon Bleasdell (East Orange, NJ) came off the bench to score 20 points and two steals in 21 minutes of play.  Four others scored in double digits including freshman Tyheem Burno (Jersey City, NJ) 13 points, sophomore Jordan Rowley (Hillside, NJ) 13 points, sophomore Nyquan McComb (Staten Island, NJ) 12 points and freshman Marvellous Akingbala (Hillside, NJ) 11 points.  

The Union men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, November 3 when they travel to Westchester Community College at 4:00 pm to battle the host school of the Westchester CC Tip Off Tournament.  With the victory Union improves to 1-0 on the season.
