Fireside Open Begins for Union Owls League of Legends

CRANFORD, NJ - Beginning this past weekend, the Union Owls League of Legends team have been competing in the Fireside Open hosted by Rutgers Esports. Group stage began on Saturday, November 10th, with the Owls competing in their first matches on Sunday, the 11th. The Owls took on the #1 seed in the group first, team BTN, for the first two matches of the event.

BTN took game one with a final score of 34-11. Game two started out on a different foot, with Jhordy "LeoLeon500" Jaramillo taking first blood after both teams attempted their own invade strategy. Despite the early game pressure created by this lead, the Owls could not press their advantage, and BTN closed out the game with a score of 59-20.

The Fireside Open features a Double Round Robin Group Stage, which means that the Owls will be playing every team in their group twice. With these losses to the first seed, the Owls will be taking on the Monkeys and Rutgers CSL JV2 on Friday. If the Owls can win their matches against the #2 and #4 seeds, they will secure their place in the bracket stage of the tournament.
