Ocean Get the Best of Union in Toms River, 7-4

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The UCC baseball team suffered a setback against Ocean County, falling 7-4 in a hard-fought contest.

The Owls (9-16, 3-5) hit the ground running with a run in the first inning, but could not keep the lead in the defeat to the Vikings. Both teams finished the game with eight hits, but it was Ocean who got the timely hits with runners on base.

Carlos Marte was the only Owl to have a multi-hit day. The shortstop plated two runs on two hits, including a 2-run single to dig into the Vikings lead. Quincy Bryant and Patrick Connolly also added a RBI a piece in the defeat.

Jovon Portuondo put in a good seven innings of work on the mound to keep the Owls in the game, but suffered a tough defeat in the quality start. Portuondo struck out four Vikings while surrendering just one earned run.

UCC will be back in action this Saturday with a big conference doubleheader against Camden County College. First pitch for the twinbill is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
