Owls Baseball Split Twinbill at Atlantic Cape

MAYS LANDING, NJ – The Union Owls (7-13, 1-3) split the Saturday doubleheader at Atlantic Cape Community College, picking up game one but falling in game two to the Buccaneers.

Game 1 | Union 5, Atlantic Cape 4

The Owls had to play comeback in game one, but were able to take care of business. Patrick Connolly was rolling going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and reached base again with a walk. Quincy Bryant and Carlos Marte were running wild on the bases, both swiping four in the victory. Four other Owls were able to nab a stolen base as well.

Jayden Jacobs was dominant on the mound. The talented righty went the distance, pitching all nine innings en route to his first win of the season. Jacobs struck out eight Bucs in the great outing.

Game 2 | Atlantic Cape 9, Union 8

The Owls were forced to play comeback ball again and nearly took game two of the doubleheader. The Buccaneers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead through three innings of play, but the Owls clawed their way back to bring the deficit to just one before falling to Atlantic Cape.

Patrick Connolly picked up right where he left on in game one, as the catcher added two more hits and RBIs to his daily total against ACCC. Javier Alfonso and James Liburd also added two hits to the Owls total, including two RBIs coming from Liburd. The Owls had six extra-base hits in the defeat. Quincy Bryant had two doubles.

The Owls will be back in action with another doubleheader tomorrow as they host the Manor College Bluejays. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Shane Walsh Field.
