Quincy Bryant Plays Walk-Off Hero, Owls Defeat Illinois Valley for Coach Daddis’ First Win at UCC

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – In a thrilling game from start to finish, UCC Baseball earned their first win of the 2019 campaign after defeating Illinois Valley by a final score of 6-5.

Quincy Bryant led the Owls (1-2, 0-0) with great plays and timely hitting, including the game-tying and game-winning hits to guide the Owls to their first victory in the Bruce Daddis era.

Illinois Valley (0-1, 0-0) opened the scoring in the second frame with two runs that were immediately answered by the Owls in the bottom half of the inning. Back and forth we went until the top of the seventh when Illinois Valley tied the game up in their final at-bat. That would only prolong the UCC victory one extra inning, as Quincy Bryant delivered the walk-off hit to officially put the Owls in the win column.

Javier Alfonso joined Bryant with 2 RBIs in the victory. Alfonso also nabbed his first triple of the season. Christian Castro added an RBI to his season total with a double. Jayden Jacobs pitched a phenomenal game with six innings pitched, striking out six on his way to a no-decision. Carlos Marte provided relief and picked up the win after two innings and three strikeouts.

The UCC Owls are back in action today as they square off against Elgin Community College Spartans at 3:30 p.m.
