Baseball's Scout Day Was A Success

Union County College Baseball team is starting their 2013-14 season strong with a competitive Fall Ball Schedule.  The team hosted their 2nd Annual Scout Day in early September to promote their current team to four year colleges and professional team scouts with hopes of future recruitment opportunities.  Scouts from four year colleges that attended were Queens College, Caldwell College, Concordia College, Arcadia College, NJCU and Fairleigh Dickenson University.  There were also professional team scouts in attendance from the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals.

Union played the Ontario International Baseball Academy which is located in Mississauga area of Canada.  The team was composed of players from Canada, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.   The day started with 5-6 members from each team running the 60 yard dash in the outfield for the colleges and scouts to time them.  Preceding this was a 9 inning game where a different pitcher pitched each inning for everyone to have exposure to the scouts.  Freshman Lenin Guzman from Dickenson High School hit a bases loaded triple for Union in the 9th inning to tie the game at 7-7.

Union County College Baseball is looking forward to an exciting 2014 spring season.  In preparations the team will be competing in a total of 8 fall games.  Check out their fall schedule to come and support a growing baseball program at Union County College.
