Union County College Names Jon Lewis as Head Baseball Coach

Union County College has named Jon Lewis as the new Head Men's Baseball Coach for the start of the 2012-2013 Baseball Season.  Jon will be bringing to Union a vast amount of playing and coaching experience. 

Jon was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 16th Round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft. He had a five year professional career in the Minor Leagues, the Northern League and Frontier League. In 2008, Jon was named to the Frontier League's All Star Game.

Before pro baseball, Jon was a full scholarship athlete at Division I Stony Brook University. During his college career, Jon was fortunate enough to be invited to play in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer Baseball League. In 2003, he played for the Hyannis Mets and in 2004 he played for the Bourne Braves. At Stony Brook, Jonathan was the 2002 America East Conference Rookie of the Year and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. He went on to hold the school's all-time records in innings pitched and strikeouts.

Jon will be assisted by Hasani Whitfield.  Hasani played at Caldwell College from 2001-2005.  During his career as a Cougar he earned three All-CACC, two ACBA/Rawlings Northeast All Region honors and the 2005 CACC Player of the Year Award.  In 2003, Hasani had one of the most successful seasons not only in Caldwell College history but in CACC history.  As a sophomore, Hasani ended the season with a .462 batting average which was 7th in nation for NCAA Division II.  Hasani's career concluded at Caldwell as the all-time career hits leader along with the career leader in other statistical categories.  Since Hasani's playing days he has been coaching travel club teams as well as passing along his knowledge to players during various clinics.
