Men's Volleyball Splits Doubleheader at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers wrapped up their second-straight day of competition splitting their matches with Union County Community College and SUNY Potsdam to conclude the week with a 3-1 record, and 8-4 overall on the season.

FLCC vs. Union County

The Lakers faced off against the Union County Owls ultimately defeating them in straight sets. Several players stood out for the Lakers in their victory, including Jonah Grbic (Victor, N.Y./ Victor), who had 6 kills and 13 digs, and Ian Meeks (Victor, N.Y./ Victor), who had 7 kills and 6 digs.

Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) had a standout performance as well, contributing 23 assists and 6 digs to the Lakers efforts. Teammate Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua( was also a key player, adding 7 kills and 4 digs to the team's overall effort.

Samuel Guardado (San Salvador, El Salvador/ Josue Christian) had a strong showing in the match, with 1 kill, 2 blocks, and 9 digs. Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./ Bellmore) also made a significant contribution, adding 6 kills and 4 blocks to the Lakers' total. Despite only playing one set, freshman Nehemiah Williams (Waterloo, N.Y. /Waterloo) had a limited role in the match but still managed to contribute 2 kills.

Several runs throughout the first set would help set the tone for the rest of the match, as the Lakers would take set one, 25-11. The Lakers would go on to take set two, 25-14, and set three, 25-16.

FLCC vs. SUNY Potsdam

The Lakers 3 game winning streak would come to end, falling straight sets to the visiting SUNY Potsdam bears. Despite a strong effort against the Bears, the Lakers struggled to put together a run to close out a set.

Sophomore Jonah Grbic led the attack with 6 kills, while also putting together an impressive effort on defense with 13 digs. Teammate Nick Ferris came up big in the matchup, with 7 kills and one block assists against the Bears.

Freshman Bryce Ceravolo continued to impress, climbing to the #2 spot in the NJCAA rankings with 193 assists on the season after a 23 assist performance against the Bears. Ceravolo would add one service ace and 6 digs to round a strong day on the hardwood. 

Despite their efforts, the Lakers were unable to find their footing against a tough SUNY Potsdam team, fallling in three sets.
