Men's Soccer: Mendoza, Roadrunners Erupt on Offense to Topple Union College

The Roadrunner Men's Soccer team has demonstrated all season long that they are capable of putting the ball in net.

Coach George Hobbins' team proved it once again Saturday when they scored six goals in a 6-1 triumph over visiting Union College in a key GSAC and Region 19 clash.

Freshman midfielder Gilmer Mendoza set the tone in the first half by scoring the first two goals in helping RCSJ take a commanding 4-0 halftime lead.

His teammates quickly jumped on the bandwagon as Connor Hernandez, Tyler Lowe, Owen Strohm and Dwayne Small added goals to polish off the visiting Owls. Jerry Green contributed two assists on offense.

"Scoring the first two goals gave us the momentum and plenty of confidence," said Mendoza, a freshman from Egg Harbor Township. "We took charge right away and we knew we weren't going to be stopped."

In the goal cage, freshman Lucien Maslin and sophomore Jason Coburn combined for four saves to preserve the win.

The Runners improved to 3-2 overall with the victory. Next up for Coach Hobbins' team will be a key conference and region battle vs. Middlesex College at home on Tuesday. Sept. 12 starting at 4 pm.
