MANGANDI (TWO GOALS, TWO ASSISTS) LEADS MIDDLESEX PAST UNION

George Mangandi assisted on the first two goals of the game then scored the next two as Middlesex College scored a dominant 5-0 home win over Union County College.

This was the fourth straight win for the Colts who are now 6-4-2 on the season while Union fell to 1-7-1.

"Our team performed well today," said Middlesex head coach Javier Velsaco. "Our defense was disciplined and didn't allow any goals."

For the second straight game, Middlesex College started the scoring early. Matias Barreiros (Freshman/Sayreville, NJ) scored his fifth goal of the season when converted a beautiful pass from Mangandi.

Although the Colts had scoring chances throughout the first half, Juan Felipe Negrete-Carrillo kept Middlesex off the board of the rest of the half.

The second half was a different story though, as Middlesex increased the pressure as the Colts put the game away with four goals in the half.

"Our midfielders controlled the midfield and helped create scoring opportunities and our forwards were able to finish their chances," said Velasco. "It was a very well deserved victory for our Men's Soccer Colts."

In addition to Mangandi's two second half goals, the Colts also got tallies from Claudio Lopez (Freshman/Dunellen, NJ), who scored his team-leading seventh goal, and Jamie Madrid (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ).

Jeremy Madrid (Freshman/Perth Amboy, NJ) had four saves in 75 minutes in goals for Middlesex and Jayson Vassallo (Freshman/South River, NJ) had one save in 15 minutes for the combined shutout.

Middlesex plays their final regular season home match of the season on Monday when they host Camden County College in a makeup of a previously postponed game. The Colts are planning on honoring their sophomores around 11:00am and the match is set to kickoff at noon.
