Lions Bounce Back With Win Over Union

Branchburg, NJ - RVCC Men's Soccer bounce back from a disappointing loss to #3 Camden CC with a gritty overtime win against Union County. Despite possessing more of the ball and creating more efforts on goal, the Lions found themselves having to come from behind twice in the game. Goals from Sophomore Chris Antunes and Freshman Ralph Russo kept RV in the game but still trailing late on. Sophmore Keeper Greg Blassneck was put under pressure from a series of late free kicks and corners but made no error in commanding his area. In the dying minutes of regular time Freshman Marco Martinez came up with a clever run, beating two men before a pinpoint cross to the back post where captain Isaiah Storah produced a spectacular diving header to send the game into extra time. After serious pressure from a resurgent Union, it was again the Captain who came up with a massive goal. Outdoing his own highlight goal from minutes before, Storah took a layoff from freshman striker Steve Corrales and fired a Wayne Rooney-esc shot from just past half to chip the keeper and come up with the first win against powerhouse Union in Coach Mark Malchow's tenure. A big home win for RVCC and a bigger statement of intent for the season; The Lions are on the hunt for the playoffs.
