Lions drop opener to #4 Suffolk

Somerset, NJ-In a highly anticipated opening match of ranked teams in NJCAA DIII men's soccer, Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), ranked #7 in the country, hosted the formidable Suffolk Community College (SCC), ranked #4, at Middlebush Park in Somerset, NJ. Despite their best efforts, RVCC faced a tough challenge and unfortunately fell short in a tightly contested game against SCC.

The game started with RCVV holding the momentum, until a well struck shot from Suffolk's Kaanturk Akgul found the back of the net in the 19th minute off well played pass from Hever Reyes, giving the Sharks an early lead. RVCC showcased their resilience and fought back hard, controlling much of the play in the 2nd half. In the 75th minute, a deflection worked in their favor, resulting in a goal and marking the Lion's first goal of the 2023 season, and more importantly tying the contest at a goal a piece.  Unfortunately SCC's Kaanturk Akgul continued to shine, scoring his second goal of the contest with a beautiful volley from an incredible 25 yards out in the 84th minute.

Looking ahead, Raritan Valley CC will host Union County College on Tuesday, August 29th, at 3:00 PM at Middlebush Park.
