Union County College Launches Men’s Wrestling Program in 2019

CRANFORD, NJ – Union County College has announced that beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year the College will add wrestling to its intercollegiate athletic teams. With this program, Union County College becomes the fifth community college in New Jersey to offer men's wrestling.

"We are excited to announce the addition of wrestling to our intercollegiate sports lineup," said Union County College Dean of College Life Tammy Smith. "Having a wrestling team will allow us to attract more students to Union. We know that New Jersey is a hotbed for wrestling, and we look forward to offering the opportunity to student-athletes to compete at the collegiate level right here in New Jersey."

A national search for a head coach and coaching staff is currently taking place. Union's Athletic Department anticipates having the new coaching staff in place soon. To accommodate the sport, Union will be building a new room for the wrestlers to practice in close proximity to Union's state of the art fitness center.

Recruitment for the winter 2019 season will be underway shortly. Interested students or prospective students should contact Union's Athletic Director Shawn Noel at 908-709-7094.

With the addition of the men's wrestling program, Union County College now offers a total of 14 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) sports. For more information about the sports programs available at Union, visit www.unionowls.com.
