Marbely Montas Named Head Women's Basketball Coach

Marbely Montas is going to embark in her 1st season as the Head Coach for the Women's Basketball team at Union County College.  She has been part of the Lady Owl legacy for 12 years as a former player and assistant coach.

Marbely was brought onto the coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2011 and since then the team has had 6 appearances in the Region XIX Tournament.  During the 2011-12 season Marbely aided in the team being named Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and Region XIX Champions.  During the 2014-15 season the team finished 27-7, named GSAC and Region XIX Champions and made their 1st appearance in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament.

In 2005 Marbely attended Union County College on a basketball scholarship and did exceptionally well as a Lady Owl and was named to the Junior College/Community College (JC/CC) Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team.  After completing her two years as a Lady Owl and earning an associate's degree in Business Administration, she signed a full basketball scholarship with Monmouth University.

After graduating from Monmouth University with a bachelor's degree in Science of Health Studies, she played for the Dominican Republic National Team.  Marbely again exceeded expectations and became the second leading scorer for the Dominican Republic.  The following year she traveled to Puerto Rico and played in the Centro Americanos where her team earn Silver. 

Marbely is currently working on obtaining her master's degree in School Business Administration from Kean University and is a Student Services Generalist at Union County College with the College Life Department.
