NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend

NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend

All-Star weekend was an exceptional one for Chinua Massena.  Chewy was invited to the NJCAA Basketball Association All-Star weekend in Las Vegas.  There were only 24 NJCAA basketball players throughout the country that were invited and he was one of 6 DIII athletes.

The All-Star weekend consisted of a banquet with a Hall of Fame induction and the highlight game during the Nike Championship Basketball Clinic.  During the banquet former Wisconsin University coach Bo Ryan addressed the basketball players about the importance of hard work on and off the court. Following Coach Ryan's speech was Joel Wooton, President of the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association, who announced the two All-Star teams. The banquet concluded with the Hall of Fame induction of former NJCAA and NBA player Eddie Robinson, Craig Tucker, Michael Ingram, Joe Kuhn and Robert "Gus" Stevens.

The morning of the All-Star game each team was granted only 45 minutes to practice prior to the game that afternoon. The game was scheduled to take place during the Nike Championship Coaches Clinic to showcase high profile athletes to the NCAA coaches that were in attendance.  Chewy had a great showing at the game where he was the starting shooting guard for the DII/DIII team which won the game 109-91.

Chewy will be selecting the college he will be playing for within the next week or so.  The Union County College community and especially the College Life office is very proud of the success Chewy has earned during his two years at Union.  We wish him all the best in his future endeavors academically and athletically.
