Basketball Sophomores Honored This Past Tuesday Night

On Tuesday, February 9th the College Life Department along with the men and women’s basketball coaching staff and players honored a total of six sophomore players during their last home game as an Owl.

Women’s Basketball Sophomores

#42 Yasmine Dorrielan

A two-year starter, Yas has certainly made her presence known inside the paint. She is one of the key factors in the over-all success of the Lady Owl Basketball Program over the past 2 years. Thus far, she has a career total 686 rebounds, 567 points and 79 block shots. Currently, she is ranked 2nd in the Nation in rebounds, averaging 14.2 per game. Yas has brought a well needed post presence to the “Owls Nest” and continues to bang inside as she “owns” the paint.

#23 Shaniece Wright

Serving as co-captain this year and also a two-year starter, Shaniece has also played a major role in the over-all success of the Lady Owl Basketball Program over the past two years. With her high-flying, acrobatic moves and never-ending energy, Shaniece has always made an impact in every game she played.  Coach Bell often refer to her as “the energizer-bunny” because even when she is exhausted, she keeps on ticking! Thus far, she has a career total 623 rebounds, 685 points, 157 assist, 130 steals, and 105 block shots. She is also ranked 16th in the Nation in rebounds, averaging 11.8 per game.

The Lady Owls have enjoyed a very successful season so far. This would not have been possible if it were not for the outstanding play and leadership of these two sophomores. Each young lady has played an important role in our overall success and will be sorely missed as they move on to further their academic and athletic careers. The coaching staff is very proud of them and wishes them the best life has to offer in the future.

A second year player who has improved immensely over his time with Union County College. Jalen has been a nightmare for the opposition this year. He has been a threat from inside or outside, as well as a menace on the glass. Jalen has also provided some much leadership during the season. Jalen will make his college choice after the season and we look forward to watching him further his success at a 4 year institution.
