Winning an athletic championship is an amazing accomplishment, but it is only part of being a student-athlete. The time that each student-athlete commits in the classroom, with their studies and their sport is exceptional, especially while in season. Quite a few Union County College student-athletes have achieved success in both academics and athletics during the 2014 spring semester.
Newly implemented for the 2013/2014 athletic year was a structured academic program for the student-athletes called Owl’s Training Camp. The program was designed to increase the academic performance for all student-athletes at Union County College. Throughout the fall semester, 23% of the student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or better. With the continuation of the Owl’s Training Camp, 35% of student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or better for the spring semester, which was an increase of 12% from the fall semester.
