Sophomore’s Marcus Walker & Allen Brown Committed to Four Year Colleges

The Union County College Men’s Basketball Program and Coach Joan Sanchez are excited to announce that sophomore’s Marcus Walker and Allen Brown have committed to 4-year NCAA institutions.  

Sophomore Marcus Walker will be attending Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut.  As a co-captain of the Owls he was an integral part of the revitalization of the basketball program. The 6’5 rebounding machine and product of Newark, NJ led Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference in rebounding and was amongst the top rebounders in the country. He also led the team in rebounding and blocks while posting 15 double doubles. Marcus helped lead the Owls to an 18-11 record and a semi-final appearance.

“Marcus is an incredible and fierce young man. I have seen him grow on and off the court and can’t be more proud of how far he has come along these past two years. Marcus has left his mark on the Owls program and has become one of our finest ambassadors at Union. Marcus will impact Albertus Magnus with his skills of rebounding and scoring from the paint and not to mention his athleticism as an intense competitor”, Stated Coach Sanchez.

“I’m excited for Marcus and his family and equally excited for Albertus Magnus College and Coach Mitch Oliver. Marcus will make a positive impact at Albertus Magnus College both in the classroom and immediately in their basketball program”, Concluded Coach Sanchez.

The Albertus Magnus College basketball program that has won 3 consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships and NCAA tournament appearances. The past 3 years the New Heaven Connecticut School has been ranked among the top-25 NCAA Division III Basketball Programs in the Country.

As a Sports Management major, Marcus will continue to pursue his degree in that field at Albertus Magnus College.

Sophomore guard, Allen Brown, will be attending Rutgers-Newark University in Newark, New Jersey this fall. The 6’1 Plainfield, NJ product was amongst the top athletes in points, assist, and steals in the Garden State Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region XIX. Allen who co-captained the Owls last season chose the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) school after a successful campaign where he led the Owls in steals and was 2nd in scoring. 

Allen, a two-year letter winner with the Owls, helped lead the program to it’s best win/loss record in 10 years while guiding them to a first round playoff bye and a semi-final appearance. “Allen’s work ethic and passion for the game is second to none. His commitment to our program and contributions helped elevate us to the kind of high standard we are looking to build at Union County College”, stated head coach Joan Sanchez.

“What’s most impressive about Allen is his commitment to his family and studies. He has maintained a 3.3 GPA, which has helped him earned New Jersey Stars program accolade. Without a doubt Coach Joe Laughling and the Rutgers-Newark University basketball community is getting an exciting player, who plays hard noise defense and can shoot the ball beyond the arc. I’m sure that Allen will make a positive impact at the Rutgers-Newark campus”, Concludes Coach Sanchez.

Allen Brown will be joining a Rutgers-Newark University squad that captured the 2012-2013 NJAC Championship and a ticket to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Rutgers-Newark has been ranked in the NCAA Division III National Polls over the past few years.

Allen who earned a Sports Management degree at Union County College will pursue a BA in Business at Rutgers-Newark University.
